Does everything in this world last forever?
No. Only God and his love last forever.
Before you talk
You already know this. The car breaks down, the kids outgrow their shoes, the house needs a new roof. Everything around you has an expiration date. But here is what is easy to forget: that is not bad news. It is an invitation. The things that wear out point us to the One who does not.
Before you talk to your child about this, sit with it yourself, what are you holding onto that will not last?
Start the conversation
- "What is your favorite toy or thing right now? Do you think it will last forever?"
- "What happens to things when they get old or break?"
- "God never gets old and never breaks. What does that tell us about him?"
Look for it this week
When something breaks or wears out this week, use it: "See? That did not last. But God does."
