Children’s Sermon Discussion Guide
Week 06September 20, 2026Ecclesiastes 5:8-6:12
Can having more and more things make us happy?
No. The more we get, the more we want. But God himself is the best gift.
Before you talk
You have more stuff than your grandparents ever dreamed of, and you still want more. That is not a moral failing, it is how desire works. The more you feed it, the hungrier it gets. Your child is learning this too, every time they flip through a screen or watch an ad. The antidote is not guilt. It is gratitude, naming the gifts you already have, starting with God himself.
Start the conversation
- "If you could have anything in the world, what would it be?"
- "Do you think getting it would make you happy forever? Why or why not?"
- "What is something we already have that makes our family happy? What about God, is he a gift too?"
Look for it this week
At a meal this week, go around the table: each person names one gift they already have. End with "God himself."
